Avondale, Arizona, is a fabulous suburb of Phoenix with an equally fabulous location just twenty-five minutes west of Phoenix. Located in Maricopa County, Avondale was initially known as Coldwater back in the early 1900s. Its founder, William Moore, named the community after the river and local spring. Moore established a general store, saloon, and stage stop, then served as the community’s postmaster until 1905. During that time, Coldwater was a popular stopover for travelers needing supplies as they traveled to and from California and Tucson.
In 1946 the city was incorporated as Avondale, and in the 1980s it experienced tremendous residential and commercial growth. Today it is a live, work, and play community with a great combination of family-oriented neighborhoods, recreational amenities, and open spaces. Adding to its allure, especially for race fans, Avondale is home to the Phoenix Raceway which hosts two NASCAR Cup Series. Avondale also encompasses several great neighborhoods with a variety of Avondale real estate options. For example, Garden Lakes is located along the city’s northern border and is regarded as the best neighborhood for homebuyers seeking a park-like atmosphere. In Garden Lakes you’ll find lakefront Avondale homes overlooking North and South Lakes and affording endless opportunities for fishing and boating.
